Shashi kapoor was signed for Veers role, but opted out at the last minute. This is when Jeetendra was brought onboard. Manmohan Desai was grateful to Jeetu for helping out at the nth hour. However the 2 of them fell out over the title of Sarfarosh in the year 1984-85.. nothing major, but statements were made in interviews
The first ever remix done for "O Mere Mehbooba" was done in the album BMW Volume 1 (Bad Mad wicked). Remixed by Toronto based DJ Jiten. The remix was titled "O Meri Mehbooba (Murder Remix)". This was in 1991.
This is the second association of Manmohan Desai with Dharmendra the other being Chacha Bhatija and also the second association with Jeetendra, the other being Bhai Ho To Aisa. Most of later Manmohan Desai's movies were with Amiabh Bachchan.
After Dharam-Veer producer Subhash Desai had started 2 film, Desh Premee directed by Manmohan Desai and also started an Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Parveen Babi and Bindiya Goswami starer, the film was tittled Khuda Gawah and the film was been directed by Surendra Mohan and the film was shelved after some shooting was done.
This marked the first time Dharmendra and Zeenat Aman were paired opposite each other (They had earlier appeared together in the 1973 box office hit "Yadoon Ki Baraat", but not as the romantic leads). Their pairing proved to be so successful that producers went on to repeat them as romantic leads in several films from then on (Shalimar 1978, Ram-Balram 1980, Kaatilon Ke Kaatil 1981, Teesri ankh 1982, Jagir 1984 amongst a host of others).
After the phenomenal success of Dharam-veer, Producers repeated the Dharam-Jeetu "Jodi" in many films from then on; Burning train 1980, Saamrat 1982, Jaani doost 1983, Insaaf ki Pukar 1987 amongst a host of others.
It capped up yet another memorable and successful year for Actor Dharmendra, after 3 of his other releases in the same year (Chacha Bhatijah, Khel Khilari Kha and Dream Girl) went on to become notable box office successes.
Shashi Kapoor was signed for the film but the was going thru a bad phase at the box office. The film's distributors put pressure on Manmohan Desai to replace him. Desai did not want to but the film was being produced by his brother Subhash Desai. Subash had started 2 films which got shelved. He was in a big financial mess and could not afford to go wrong a third time. Desai stated had it been his own production he would have put his foot down and told the distributors no.They were under severe pressure to start the film. So Shashi was dropped from the film and Amitabh was signed. But Shashi all off a sudden gave a few hits and Manmohan Desai decided he wanted Shashi back in the film. Manmohan was able to convince the distributors that Shashi was the right choice for the role. Manmohan Desai went and approached Shashi again for the film, but Shashi was insulted and rejected the offer. Desai felt that Shashi Kapoor was instigated against him and was listening to people around him . Manmohan Desai decided Jeetendra would be the best bet for the role. Amitabh no longer had the required dates needed. The reason Desai did not panic was because he felt that Veer's role could be played by any actor, but Dharam's role could only he done by Dharmendra. Had Dharmendra rejected the role, he would have shelved the film.
There was later a shelved film "Bus Do Punjabi". Yusuf Khan, who made his directorial debut with KHEL, had cast Dharmendra and Sunny Deol in his new venture called BUS DO PUNJABI (Previously titled Dharam Veer ). G.V.Prasad was producing the film.
