- Anachronisms: Although the movie is set in the 1970s, many people in the crowd at the various games can clearly be seen wearing modern day fashionable clothes such as hipster jeans and contemporary sport shirts. This is most noticeable in the scene when the bear escapes and everyone in the crowd rushes to exit the stadium.
- Anachronisms: During the movie, the Tropics play both the Anaheim Amigos and the Spirits of St. Louis. The Amigos played only during the 1967-68 season before becoming the Los Angeles Stars. The Spirits did not play until the 1974-75 season.
- Factual errors: The Anaheim Amigos jerseys are incorrect. They are showed playing in red jerseys with a black script "Anaheim." Their jerseys had a block "Amigos" on the front.
- Factual errors: The Anaheim Amigos were not in the ABA in its final year of existence.
- Miscellaneous: When Coffee Black dunks the ball, you can obviously tell that the rim is a "breakaway" rim. Breakaway rims were not used in the ABA and were not used in the NBA until the 80's.
- Errors in geography: When the Tropics' team bus is shown on the road there is one quick shot of an Interstate 55 shield. Behind the highway shield and Stuckey's sign is a backdrop that features a seriously mountainous terrain. None of the route covered by I-55 (which connects Chicago, St Louis, Memphis & New Orleans) features any mountains at all. This scene must have been shot in SoCal.
- Factual errors: At the start of the movie, during the starting lineup introduction, the shot clock is set at 24 seconds. The ABA used a 30-second shot clock.
