In 1940s Venice, after twenty years of marriage, a Professor and his younger wife witness the passion wane. Now, all that remains is to confess the rousing thoughts to an elaborate diary hoping to break free from ties and inhibitions.

- Performing explicit nudity in this film, 斯特法尼娅·桑德雷利 was thirty-seven years of age when she appeared in this movie.
- This movie is actually a remake. It had been made before as 键 (1959) about twenty-four years earlier and directed by respected Japanese director 市川昆. The movies are both adaptations of the 1956 Japanese novel "Kagi" by 谷崎润一郎. "Kagi" has also been filmed a number of other times - See: Kagi (1974) and Kagi (1997) whilst another Japanese version, 键 (1983), was also released in the same 1983 year as this movie. This picture is actually the third version of the book and was released before 键 (1983).
- 丁度·巴拉斯 only ever wanted actress 斯特法尼娅·桑德雷利 for the role of Teresa Rolfe and waited until she was at the right age for the part.
