派珀·劳瑞 Piper Laurie

Piper Laurie is a three-time Oscar nominee, nominated by BAFTA as well as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for best performance by an actress in 'The Hustler' with Paul Newman.

Laurie was born Rosetta Jacobs in Detroit, Michigan, to Charlotte Sadie (Alperin) and Alfred Jacobs, a furniture dealer. Her family is of Russian Jewish and Polish Jewish descent. Piper had been studying acting with Benno and Betomi Schnider for three years when she auditioned for Universal Studios, who signed her to a long term contract. They made more than twenty films starring the teenage girl opposite such actors as Tony Curtis, Rock Hudson and Tyrone Power. Disgusted with the lack of serious roles, Laurie finally broke her lucrative Hollywood contract, moved to New York, lived on a budget, worked on live television and theater, and within two years changed her life and her career.

She stopped working for fifteen years after 'The Hustler' to devote her energies to the Civil Rights movement and to the Vietnam War, feeling acting was less important. When she accepted work again she was nominated for an Academy Award as best supporting actress for the original 'Carrie' with Sissy Spacek, and again as best supporting actress in 'Children of a Lesser God' with Marlee Matlin. She won the Golden Globe for her role in the David Lynch cult favorite "Twin Peaks' and was nominated for an Emmy for both best actress and best supporting actress in 'Twin Peaks." She has been nominated twelve times for an Emmy, including one for the original and celebrated live broadcast of 'The Days of Wine and Roses' with Cliff Robertson, directed by John Frankenheimer, as well as for her comedic performance in 'Frasier'. She won the Emmy for 'Promise' opposite James Woods and James Garner. She was Harvard's Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year, and she also received an SFECA award for her performance as Dolly in the film of 'The Grass Harp'.

In 2010 she played an ancient grandma who learns to smoke a bong in the feature film 'Hesher', with Joseph Gordon Levitt and Natalie Portman. Most recently she has appeared as Grandma Hershe in White Boy Rick, starring Matthew McConaughey, and as Rose Muller in Snapshots, directed by Melanie Mayron.

In 2013 she made her musical stage debut in 'A Little Night Music' as the glamorous Madame Armfeldt.

Ms. Laurie performed on Broadway in the Tony-nominated Lincoln Center production of 'Mornings at Seven' directed by Dan Sullivan at the Lyceum Theatre. She also appeared on Broadway in the 20th Anniversary production of 'The Glass Menagerie', in which she played Laura, with Maureen Stapleton as Amanda, at the Brooks Atkinson.

Off-Broadway, she has appeared in Molly Kazan's 'Rosemary and the Alligators', Larry Kramer's 'The Destiny of Me'. She toured in a one-person play about Zelda Fitzgerald, written by Bill Luce. In 2010 she directed Jim Brochu in his one-man show 'Zero Hour', for which he received the Drama Desk Award for best solo performance on or off Broadway, playing Zero Mostel.

Piper Laurie is divorced from Wall Street Journal's movie critic, Pulitzer Prize-winner Joe Morgenstern. Their daughter lives in Oregon. Laurie's autobiography Learning to Live Out Loud was published by Crown in 2011 to rave reviews and is now available as an audio book on audible.com.

Starred alongside 茜茜·斯派塞克 in three movies: 魔女嘉莉 (1976) (she played her mother), 草竖琴 (1995) (she played her sister!), and the TV movie 真情的代价 (2001). In Italy, almost all her films were dubbed by Rosetta Calavetta. She was dubbed, albeit briefly by Miranda Bonansea at the beginning of her career; and later on by Maria Pia Di Meo. The talented Fiorella Betti lent her distinctive voice to Laurie in the acclaimed The Hustler (1961). Along with 茜茜·斯派塞克, 西格妮·韦弗, 朱迪·福斯特, 凯西·贝茨, 鲁思·戈登, 托妮·科莱特, 帕蒂·麦克马科, 艾琳·哈卡特, 南茜·凯利, 朱迪·福斯特, 珍妮特·利, 艾伦·伯斯汀, 琳达·布莱尔, and 格伦·克洛斯, she is one of the few actresses to have been nominated for an Oscar for a performance in a horror movie. Brief social connection to G. David Schine (1927-96), the hotel heir and staff assistant to the notorious Sen. 约瑟夫·麦卡锡. When Schine was drafted into the Army, McCarthy and Schine's staff colleague Roy Cohn unsuccessfully sought to exert their influence to get him a commission as an officer, which he was not qualified for. This led to a congressional investigation and the 1954 televised Army-McCarthy hearings. In her 2011 autobiography, "Learning to Live Out Loud: A Memoir", she revealed that she and 梅尔·吉布森 had a one-night stand while working together on the movie 提姆爱我 (1979), despite their almost-25-year age difference and the fact that she was married at the time. Graduated from Los Angeles High School in Los Angeles, California, in 1950. Lost the co-starring role in Elmer Gantry (1960) to 雪莉·琼斯. Her father was a Polish Jewish immigrant. Her mother was born in Pennsylvania, to Russian Jewish parents. Met 罗纳德·里根, in 1949, aged 17, while she was studying acting, consistently. After Laurie was born, she was upstairs in the back of the house, being delivered by a male midwife. Her paternal grandfather knew that his surname "Yakobovich" was too long and too difficult, so he changed his surname to "Jacobs", before his granddaughter was born. Her acting mentor was the late 罗纳德·里根. While working at Universal, they tore up her contract three times, to give her more money, in extending the time. She made a mistake by signing a contract, when she didn't need to. She inherited her sense of humor from her parents; though she inherited her father's face. After 罗纳德·里根's divorce from 简·怀曼, Laurie had a very serious relationship with him. She was 21 years his junior. Her family lived in Arizona, in a shack on the desert, temporarily. Prior to Laurie's birth, her sister Sherry Arlene Jacobs had bee afflicted with asthma, a disease her sister had, since birth. She and her parents were so concerned that at one point they loaded Piper and Sherry onto a bus and went to Arizona, to see if the climate would help Sherry Arlene's asthma. Unfortunately, it didn't. Her sister, Sherry Arlene Jacobs, died in 2006. Had changed her name from Rosetta Jacobs to Piper Laurie, when she wanted to become an actress. Grew up in a traditional Jewish house with Hebrew lessons at the synagogue, although she doesn't attend anymore. Along with Sherry Arlene, Laurie was also placed in a children's home. Before she was a successful actress, she starred in her first play. Her idol was 简·维特尔斯. Her hobbies are: nature, art, drawing, painting, and collecting rocks. Guest starred on the first episode of Matlock (1986). Began her career as a contract player with Universal in 1949. Met 托尼·柯蒂斯, 玛莎·亨特 and 朱莉·亚当斯, when the four were all under contract at Universal in 1949. As of 2016 she is the 7th earliest surviving recipient of a Best Actress Oscar nomination, tied with 索菲娅·罗兰 and behind only 奥利维娅·德哈维兰, 莱斯莉·卡伦, Carroll Baker, 乔安娜·伍德沃德, 雪莉·麦克雷恩 and 多丽丝·黛. She was nominated in 1961 for The Hustler (1961). Underwent an abortion in 1961 after relocating to New York City before her relationship to future husband Joe Morgenstern.
